Maine Sees Gambling Addiction Spike After Online Sports Betting

In 2024, the number of successful service connections rose 36% in just twelve months. This trend continued into 2025 with another 23% jump. Prior to legal mobile betting, around 85 individuals a year called for gambling help. Now, that number is closer to 145.

Maine online casinos will need additional time to launch, though, with officials aiming for them to go live by early 2027. Using a tribal partnership model, each Maine tribe may team up with a third-party operator to launch a mobile online casino platform once regulations are finalized.
In the meantime, Maine’s physical gambling options remain centered on its two licensed casinos in Oxford and Bangor, alongside tribal-run bingo and charitable gaming.
